Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the most important and widely planted grape in the world. It is best known for its tannic, full bodied red wines, and is the most important grape in most Bordeaux wine, and also planted in other areas of France, notably the Loire.
Cabernet Sauvignon is responsible for some fine varietal wines in the New World (Australia, California, South Africa amongst other countries) and is also paired very successfully with Shiraz in Australia.
Cabernet plays a minor role in some Italian Chianti, but its use in Italy is mainly confined to varietal or blended vini de tavola.
