Grape Varieties : Syrah

  Syrah (known as Shiraz in Australia) is a red wine grape variety capable of producing excellent peppery, spicy, sometimes smoky wines.

  Grown widely in the northern Rhone valley, it is also used in blends - often with Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache - where it adss depth and longevity to the wine.

  Syrah wines, or wines containing it as part of the blend, often benefit from a period of ageing before being drunk.
